Introduction

BigDevelop (“we,” “our,” or “us”) built MacroSnapper as an AI-powered calorie and macro tracking app. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and use.

The short version: MacroSnapper stores all your food logs, macro goals, and preferences locally on your device. When you use the AI-powered features (photo analysis or voice food logging), your food photos and/or text descriptions are sent to OpenAI for nutritional analysis. The app asks for your explicit consent before sending any data to OpenAI for the first time. We (BigDevelop) do not operate our own servers and do not collect or store any of your data.

Information We Collect

We do NOT collect personal information.

MacroSnapper does not collect, store, or have access to any personal information on our servers. We do not have accounts, analytics, or tracking. All data remains on your device.

Data stored locally on your device only:

  • Your daily food log entries (food names, calories, macros)
  • Your custom macro goals (calories, protein, carbs, fat targets)
  • Your OpenAI API key (stored in local app storage)
  • Food photos you take (stored temporarily for analysis)

Third-Party AI Service — Data Sharing with OpenAI

MacroSnapper uses OpenAI's API (provided by OpenAI, L.L.C.) as a third-party AI service for food analysis. Before any data is sent to OpenAI, the app displays a consent dialog clearly explaining what data will be shared, and requires your explicit permission before proceeding.

What data is sent to OpenAI:

  • Food photos — When you use the “Snap” feature, the photo you take or select is sent to OpenAI for nutritional analysis
  • Text descriptions — When you use the “Voice Log” feature, your spoken food description (converted to text) is sent to OpenAI for macro estimation

Who the data is sent to:

Your data is sent directly from your device to OpenAI, L.L.C. via their API (api.openai.com). We (BigDevelop) never see, receive, intercept, or store your photos or food descriptions on any server we operate. All communication with OpenAI is encrypted via HTTPS.

How OpenAI handles your data:

OpenAI processes your food photos and text descriptions solely to return nutritional analysis results. OpenAI's handling of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, which provide protections for user data including encryption and data handling controls.

Your consent and control:

  • The app asks for your explicit consent before sending any data to OpenAI for the first time
  • You can decline and still use the app for manual food entry (no data leaves your device)
  • No data is sent to OpenAI or any third party until you actively choose to use the AI features and grant consent

AI Service Authentication

MacroSnapper includes a pre-configured API key to communicate with OpenAI's service. This key is used solely to authenticate AI food analysis requests. All communication is encrypted via HTTPS. No additional account setup or personal credentials are required from you.

Camera Access

MacroSnapper requests camera access to let you photograph your meals for AI analysis. Camera access is used solely for this purpose. Photos are processed for nutritional analysis and are not stored permanently unless saved to your device's photo library by your choice.

No Analytics, No Tracking, No Ads

MacroSnapper does not integrate with any analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, crash reporting, or any similar services. The app contains no advertisements.

Children's Privacy

MacroSnapper is not directed at children under 13. Since we do not collect personal information on our servers, there is no risk of collecting children's data. However, the AI photo analysis feature requires an OpenAI API key and account, which has its own age requirements.

Data Security

All food logs and preferences are stored locally using your device's built-in secure storage. Communications with OpenAI's API are encrypted via HTTPS. We recommend keeping your device's operating system up to date and using a device passcode or biometric lock.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
